About SL Carpentry

Bench-joinery roots. A clean site. Proper craft.

SL Carpentry & Construction was set up in Crawley in 2017 by Sean Doyle — a bench-joiner by training who still does site work himself most days.

Meet the founder

Sean Doyle — bench joiner, builder, founder.

Sean trained as a bench joiner straight from school — three years at college followed by a two-year apprenticeship — then spent the next decade learning every corner of the trade on site. He set up SL Carpentry & Construction in 2017 and, nine years in, still does the work himself most days.

Bench joinery means traditional craft: scribing, puttying, hand-cut mitres — the kind of detail you notice the first time you run your hand along a finished kitchen or a fitted staircase. That same care now runs through everything the team takes on, from a single window to a full property turnaround.

What started as a one-man joinery service has grown into a close-knit crew of trusted trades. The brief from day one hasn’t changed: proper work, honestly priced, finished cleanly.

What we do today

From a single fitted kitchen to a full ground-floor renovation, we take on residential carpentry, joinery and construction work across Surrey, West Sussex and South London.

Most weeks involve some mix of bespoke kitchens, bathroom installs, garden rooms and decking, fitted joinery, and larger refurbishment programmes — including full property turnarounds for a strong network of repeat clients.

We work directly with homeowners, with architects, and with local property developers. Whatever the size of the job, the same handful of things matter: quality workmanship, clear communication, a tidy site, and a finish that holds up years down the line.

“Proper carpentry, honest pricing, a clean site. That's the whole thing. Everything else is noise.”
