SL Carpentry & Construction delivers first and second fix carpentry, bespoke joinery and fitted furniture across West Sussex, Surrey and surrounding areas. Sean trained as a bench joiner, so traditional craft skills like scribing, puttying and hand-cut mitres sit alongside fast, modern installation work on full-property builds and refurbishment programmes.
What we do in carpentry
First & second fix
Stud walls, floor joists, roof timbers, then architraves, skirting, doors, ironmongery and final trims. We work to a proper schedule and keep a clean site from day one.
Bespoke joinery
Under-stair storage, window seats, alcove units, bookshelves and fitted wardrobes — designed on site, built to your space, finished to be painted or stained.
Stairs, spindles & handrails
Replacement spindles, oak handrails, quarter-turn newels and full staircase refurbishments. We'll scribe panelling to stair stringers so there's no visible caulk.
Wall panelling & media walls
Traditional T&G panelling, Victorian dado rails, modern shaker panels and full media walls with integrated LED shadow gaps.
Doors & ironmongery
Reclaimed 1930s timber doors, bespoke hardwood frames, stained glass installs, internal door hanging, tubular latches and period hardware.
Windows & traditional joinery
Sash restoration, puttying, cill board replacement, bespoke casement windows made off-site in the workshop.

How long does a carpentry & joinery job take?
For most carpentry packages we'll quote, schedule and get started within two to three weeks. Larger fit-outs and full-build programmes run to a longer timeline — we'll walk you through it.
Every job is different — we'll give you a firm timescale in our quote, and flag anything that might affect it (awaiting materials, party-wall agreements, structural sign-off).
Common questions.
Can you match existing skirting, architraves or period features?
Yes. We'll either source a matching profile or run new pieces through our profile cutters. For listed properties we can cut to a sample you provide and finish on site.
Do you do proper scribing and traditional joinery?
Every day. Sean apprenticed as a bench joiner — panelling scribed to stair stringers, putty rebates on single-glazed windows, hand-cut mitres on complex architrave returns. It's our favourite work.
Do you supply the timber, or do I?
Either works. Most clients prefer us to supply — we buy from trusted timber yards (BSW, local suppliers) and pass on trade pricing. If you've already bought timber, we'll work with what you have.
